Roll printing: defects and pitch consistency

Print defects and changes in the distance between repeats on roll material.

Artwork and repetition on the material

A printed roll requires checks on both artwork appearance and the distance between repeats. A defect can affect the print even when pitch is consistent; a pitch variation can occur in artwork that otherwise appears correct.

Print inspection with a CIS reader

The CIS reader acquires the print on the roll material. Inspection examines its appearance to identify artwork anomalies. Analysis images show highlighted defects and enlarged details to make the inspected features visible.

Pitch measurement and consistency

Measured pitch is compared with the nominal value and configured tolerance. Measurements across repeats allow pitch consistency along the roll to be examined. The LynxLabel website explains print inspection and the system’s capabilities in more detail.
